Cape Town - The success of the five-week Netball Cup will be put to the test later this month when the national team play a three-Test series against Scotland in Cape Town.

The Tests would be played at the Velodrome in Bellville between June 19 and 21.

"It is a very opportune time for us to play this series," said Netball SA (NSA) president Mimi Mthethwa.

"We have just finished the Brutal Fruit Netball Cup, and this series gives us a chance to see how the players have progressed."

With the Commonwealth Games looming in July, the team would use the series against Scotland to gauge their preparations, said Mthethwa.

Proteas coach Elize Kotze said she would blood some younger players in the series.

"Lenise Potgieter is a very talented young player.

"She's only 20, but she showed a great maturity during the Netball Cup, standing up against experienced defenders like Karla Mostert and Adele Niemand," Kotze said.

"The other two newcomers are both defenders, Kefiloe Tsotetsi and Phumza Maweni."

Scotland are ranked 13th by the International Netball Federation, while South Africa are sixth. "If we win all three Tests against Scotland, we will move up to fifth in the world rankings," said Kotze.

The two teams would be in different pools at the Commonwealth Games, with Scotland coming up against New Zealand, Jamaica, Malawi, Northern Ireland and St Lucia, while South Africa were grouped with Australia, England, Wales, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

Proteas squad:
Zanele Mdodana, Chrisna van Zyl, Erin Burger, Karla Mostert, Adele Niemand, Maryka Holtzhausen, Melissa Myburgh, Lenize Potgieter, Bongi Msomi, Precious Mthembu, Kefiloe Tsotetsi and Phumza Maweni.
