Cape Town - Western Province eased to a 45-14 win over the EP Kings in a Currie Cup clash at Newlands on Friday.

Province knew that only a win would do in their bid to secure a home semi-final, but none of that mattered as the Blue Bulls triumphed against the Pumas in Nelspruit.

The results mean that WP will now travel to Pretoria to take on the Bulls in the semi-finals.

WP were ahead after just three minutes when Nizaam Carr benefited from a non-existent Kings defence to cross the whitewash.

Fullback Scott van Breda kept the Kings in the game with three penalties to make it 10-9 to WP after half an hour.

But Province scored their second try through Juan de Jongh shortly after Van Breda's third penalty when the home side took a quick tap from a kickable penalty. Robert du Preez added the extras and it was 17-9.

Province then had their third when scrumhalf Godlen Masimla broke to score under the posts in the 34th minute before the Kings hit straight back through their No 9 Enrico Acker.

The hosts put the game to bed with two tries in the second half through Dillyn Leyds and then substitute Justin Benn to take a 38-14 lead into the last 20 minutes.

A late try from Leyds wrapped the game up as Province cantered to a 45-14 win.
