Cape Town - Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has been mentioned as a possible successor to Brent Janse van Rensburg as Boland Cavaliers coach.

Boland received another setback earlier this week when Janse van Rensburg quit his role under mysterious circumstances.

It came after Boland’s director of rugby, Alan Zondagh, quit last week, citing political interference from the union’s board as a reason for his departure.

According to Netwerk24, De Villiers - who coached the Boks between 2008 and 2011 - has again been linked with the job.

He currently works in Namibia as a development coach for the local financial provider Trustco’s Centre of Excellence.

This is not the first time De Villiers has been linked to the Boland head coaching role. In May last year it was also reported that he could become Boland coach, before Dewey Swartbooi got the nod for last year’s Currie Cup.

When Swartbooi quit Boland for a job at the Bulls late last year, Janse van Rensburg was roped in after resigning at the financially stricken EP Kings.
