Cape Town - Griquas coach Peter Engledow will leave the Kimberley union at the end of the season to become Paarl Boys’ High’s 1st XV coach.

The school’s principal Derek Swart confirmed Engledow that has been appointed as their new head of rugby.

Engledow will replace Sean Erasmus, who has joined up with the Golden Lions.

"It is a great honour and privilege to become part of the Paarl Boys' High's culture," Engledow said via a press statement on Thursday. "The selection process was comprehensive but I am determined to make the school proud and successfully replace Sean Erasmus."

Erasmus was head of rugby for five years at Paarl Boys' High and achieved unknown successes with the 1st XV. Highlights of his time include being unbeaten for three years in a row, as well as a four-year winning streak against Paarl Gymnasium in the annual interschools clash.

Engledow will remain Griquas coach until the conclusion of this year’s Currie Cup, before moving down to the Cape at the end of October.

He studied at the University of Stellenbosch and after coaching at Table View High School he moved to England for over a decade where he was appointed at St Joseph's College, Ipswich as director of rugby. He returned to South Africa and joined Griquas in 2013 where he was initially appointed as assistant coach.

He became head coach Griquas' Vodacom and Currie Cup teams, winning the Vodacom Cup in 2014, as well as ending runner-up in the 2017 and 2018 SuperSport Rugby Challenge competitions.
