On the hopeful assumption that it is able to even happen, the intended Rainbow Cup - an experimental version of a future PRO16 - will bring a welcome degree of difference to the South African rugby landscape in the autumn.
We'll get to see some freshening faces from Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Italy when the event, also featuring South Africa's four most recent Super Rugby outfits, kicks off on 17 April and runs until 19 June.
In two pools of eight, teams within each group will play each other once each (the SA contingent will have single, three-game overseas tours) ahead of a final between the top respective finishers.
