Cape Town - A Facebook petition page has been created with the aim of stopping France's Romain Poite from ever refereeing a match again.

Poite came under fire for a series of blunders in the All Blacks' controversial 29-15 Rugby Championship victory over the Springboks at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday.

Much to the ire of the Springboks' fans, Poite showed hooker Bismarck du Plessis a yellow card in the 16th minute of the Test for a perfectly legal tackle, as decreed by the IRB.

Poite then showed Du Plessis a second yellow - and a subsequent red card - for leading with an elbow which connected with the throat of All Blacks flank Liam Messam.

The Boks fought manfully for close on 50 minutes with only 14 players at their disposal, eventually going down 29-15 and surrendering top spot in the standings.

Mere hours after the final whistle sounded, a Facebook page was created - and to date has had close on 50 000 "likes".

Poite's Facebook page is reminiscent of the one set up to have New Zealand referee Bryce Lawrence banned following his "forgettable" performance with the whistle in the Springboks' 11-9 quarter-final defeat to Australia at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

That page
has had a little over 76 000 "likes" to date.
