Cape Town - The Springboks, battered and bruised after their Rugby Championship loss to Argentina on Saturday, are sweating over the fitness of flyhalf Elton Jantjies ahead of their September 10 clash against Australia in Brisbane.

Jantjies was withdrawn early on in the second half against the Pumas (the Boks lost 26-24) in Salta after having struggled to get a hold of the game.

His kicking at goal and out of hand was poor, and coach Allister Coetzee turned to veteran Morne Steyn in his time of need.

But now it seems that Jantjies may have been substituted not because of his poor showing, but because of a tight groin.

According to Netwerk24, Jantjies has a groin strain and he will be sent for scans upon returning to South Africa.

The Boks were dealt another major injury blow with the news that wing Ruan Combrinck will miss the rest of the Championship after breaking his fibula.

It all gives coach Allister Coetzee a lot to think about, and with Handre Pollard and Pat Lambie still nowhere near match ready, the Bok coach may have to give Steyn the No 10 jersey if Jantjies' groin strain is worse than initially feared.
