Cape Town - Despite their loss to England at the Cape Town Sevens, three Blitzboks made the Dream Team for the event.

It was heartbreak for South Africa in Sunday’s Cup Final at Cape Town Stadium, with Justin Geduld’s missed conversion from the corner enabling England to triumph 19-17.

But there was some consolation when three South Africans - captain Philip Snyman, Chris Dry and Werner Kok - were included in the Dream Team.

Two Englishmen - Dan Norton and Richard de Carpentier - were also included, while New Zealand’s Tim Mikkelson and Kenya’s Billy Odhiambo completed the line-up.

New Zealand finished third in Cape Town after beating Scotland 24-19 in the Bronze Final, while Kenya finished sixth after losing 33-21 to Fiji in the playoff match for fifth place.

More consolation for South Africa was the fact that that they remain atop the overall World Rugby Sevens Series standings after two rounds, having won the first event in Dubai the previous week.

The Blitzboks (41) lead England (39) by two points, followed by Fiji (32) in third, with Scotland and New Zealand (both 27) completing the top five.

The next event is scheduled for Wellington, New Zealand on January 28-29 where the Blitzboks have been drawn in a tough pool alongside Fiji, Australia and Japan.
