Cape Town - Following their loss to New Zealand in the Cup Final of the Vancouver Sevens, the Blitzboks received some consolation after two South Africans were included in the Dream Team for the event.
After beating Fiji 31-19 in the semi-finals, the Blitzboks again came unstuck against New Zealand in the final, losing 19-14.
However, two Blitzboks - Kwagga Smith and Justin Geduld - were included in the Dream Team for the event.
Two Fijians - Jasa Veremalua and Kitione Taliga - also cracked the nod for the team , while New Zealand’s Tim Mikkelson, Samoa’s Phoenix Hunapo-Nofoa and America’s Martin Iosefo make up the rest of the team.
Despite their Cup Final loss, the South Africans moved to within one point of leaders Fiji at the top of the World Rugby Sevens Series standings.
After six rounds, only two points separate the top three sides at the top of the World Rugby Sevens Series log. Fiji lead the way with 106 points, despite their shock 19-12 loss to Australia in Sunday’s Bronze Final. They are closely followed by South Africa (105) and New Zealand (104).
The next two rounds of the World Rugby Sevens Series will be staged in the Far East. The Hong Kong Sevens takes place over three days between April 8 and 10, followed by the Singapore Sevens a week later.
