Cape Town - Springbok hooker Bismarck du Plessis has been cleared to play against Scotland by team doctor Craig Roberts.

The Sharks hooker, who suffered a serious knee injury last year, recently returned to action playing a few club games.

The Boks tackle Scotland at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday, and Roberts is happy for Du Plessis to make his return to the international arena.

"I am very happy with Bismarck du Plessis, who played a club match on Friday," Roberts told the Cape Times.

"He has now played 240 minutes of club rugby, and we are very happy with where he is, and is available for selection."

Adriaan Strauss performed well at hooker against Italy last week, so the realistic move would be for Du Plessis to start from the bench.

However, coach Heyneke Meyer indicated he could rest a few of his top players, which could fast-track the fit-again Du Plessis into the starting team.

"A lot of the senior players are struggling with little injuries, so it will be great to give them a break. I don't believe guys should rest at national level, but we want to get to the luxury that when a guy is not 100 percent fit, that you can play other players as well.

"I want to keep the continuity, we have a great rhythm at the moment, there are a lot of positives, and the guys are very enthusiastic. But the there definitely will be one or two new players in the side as well," said Meyer.

The Boks' Test kicks off at 17:15 on Saturday.
