Cape Town - Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has described their performance over Samoa at Loftus Versfeld as a "super-effort".

The Boks scored eight tries in a 56-23 win to seal the Incoming Series, which also involved Scotland and Italy.

They scored 16 tries in three games, a statistic which pleased the Bok mentor.

"It's because we did the basic things right. Last year we scored 23 tries in the whole year - and that counted among the most in the world - and now we're already at 16," Meyer told the Beeld website.

Meyer said it's a pity that the players now have to break for Super Rugby before they start preparing for the Rugby Championship, which begins for the Boks with a game against Argentina in Bloemfontein on August 16.

"You never expect to get 50 points in Test rugby. I told the players beforehand they shouldn't worry about the scoreboard - that's for the fans.

"I only wanted them to fight the war in front of them. Then the scoreboard will look after itself. But in the Rugby Championship every game is like that. You have to pitch up for every game, because it's a new 'war' every time.

"It's tough that we now have to play Super Rugby again (before the Rugby Championship), but it (the Samoa win) was a super-effort," continued Meyer.
