Cape Town - Springbok coach Allister Coetzee feels the Lions’ success in this year’s Super Rugby competition can be transferred into the national setup.

The Lions have been South Africa’s best performers in Super Rugby this year and will contest the final when they duel the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday.

“I wish the Lions all the best for Saturday’s final. It’s important for them to do well in slot into the Bok set-up with needed confidence,” Coetzee told Netwerk24.

Coetzee was Springbok assistant coach in 2007 when the Bulls won the Super Rugby competition.

He believes that confidence was carried into the Bok set-up as the team went on to claim the World Cup title in France later that year.

“The Lions’ consecutive victories over New Zealand teams would have instilled confidence. When the Bulls won Super Rugby in 2007, that self-confidence was carried over into the Springbok camp.

Coetzee will name his 31-man Rugby Championship squad on Saturday, with the Springboks' opening match taking place on Saturday, August 20 against Argentina in Nelspruit.
