Cape Town - Pieter de Villiers could form part of the Springbok management team from 2018, a report indicates.

This is of course Pieter de Villiers - the former France prop - and not former national coach Peter de Villiers.

A recent Weekend Argus newspaper report created confusion when the latter was mentioned as a possible Springbok assistant coach.

But the return of Pieter de Villiers, who played 69 Tests for France between 1999 and 2007, appears the more likely scenario.

According to a report on Netwerk24, Pieter de Villiers could be appointed as SA Rugby’s scrum coach by Rassie Erasmus.

Erasmus has returned to work as SA Rugby’s director of rugby and may opt to utilise the services of Pieter de Villiers, who worked under him during his previous stint at SA Rugby.

Matt Proudfoot’s job as Springbok forwards appears to be in jeopardy.

Head coach Allister Coetzee could also be removed from his post, but the report on the Afrikaans website further states that a successor for Coetzee may not be named.

Erasmus, in his new role, will have full control over Springbok team selections and game plans and could decide to merely appoint assistants who work under him.

Coetzee’s bosses will meet in Cape Town on Wednesday to discuss his performance as Bok coach.

Coetzee has won only 11 out of 25 Tests in charge of the Boks which gives him a meagre 44% win-record, well below his 65% mandate.
