Cape Town - Handre Pollard’s rehabilitation from an ankle injury is ahead of schedule and the flyhalf is confident that he’ll be ready should the Springboks call on his services against France.

The Bulls pivot suffered an ankle injury last month and at the time it was expected that he would be sidelined for between eight and 10 weeks.

He looked set to miss next month’s three-Test home series against France but said on Monday that he was recovering better than anticipated.

“Currently, things are looking good. We are ahead of schedule,” Pollard told Netwerk24.

Pollard won’t have an opportunity to prove that he is match-fit before the first Test against the French, but he is nevertheless confident of receiving a call-up.

“I haven’t been out for too long... so haven’t lost that much of my fitness. You remain relatively sharp... I’ll make sure I’m ready, whether I’m picked or not is in their (Springbok management) hands.”

The discussion about who Springbok coach Allister Coetzee should pick as his flyhalf for the France series has heated up in recent times.

The Lions' Elton Jantjies appears to be the front-runner, while Southern Kings flyhalf Lionel Conje was also included in an extended squad for a training camp later this month.

There is fresh doubt over the availability of Pat Lambie, who again suffered concussion playing for the Sharks against the Southern Kings at the weekend.

Curwin Bosch is another flyhalf who has impressed for the Sharks in Super Rugby this season, but his inclusion in the Junior Springbok squad means he will likely not be considered for the France series.

The first Test against France is scheduled for June 10 in Pretoria, followed by Tests in Durban (June 17) and Johannesburg (June 24).
