There have been few certainties in South African rugby lately. 

The coronavirus pandemic and the resulting national lockdown have made it so.

The entire club season was lost, Super Rugby was scrapped back in March after just seven rounds, the Springboks were robbed of their midyear home fixtures against Georgia and Scotland in what would have been their first participation under new head coach Jacques Nienaber since being crowned world champions in November last year and, in September, SA Rugby confirmed plans to send its premier franchises - the Bulls, Stormers, Lions and Sharks - up north to join an expanded version of PRO Rugby from 2021, bringing the curtain down on a 25-year history of Super Rugby.
