Cape Town - SA Rugby has chosen its seven most consistent performers in the Springbok jersey for 2017.

It was an improved performance from the previous year, with the Boks winning seven of 13 Tests in 2017.

There were however the record losses to New Zealand (57-0, Albany) and Ireland (38-3 Dublin) that tarnished the season.

Springbok Magazine chose seven Boks who stood out during the season:

1 Malcolm Marx (hooker)

The magazine said the “23-year-old dominated the No 2 jersey this season” and highlighted his heroic performance against the All Blacks at Newlands as “one of the best by a Springbok hooker ever”.

2 Eben Etzebeth (lock)

After taking the captain’s armband from the injured Warren Whiteley, Etzebeth is described as “abrasive and formidable as ever”.

3 Jan Serfontein (centre)

The magazine says Serfontein was the Springboks’ “star back” of the season.

“His commitment on defence and strength on attack was missed in Europe.”

4 Siya Kolisi (flank)

Kolisi is described as having “enjoyed his finest season in the Green and Gold to date”.

5 Jean-Luc du Preez (flank)

“The 22-year-old’s physicality always had an immediate impact on the team whenever he was injected into the game.”

6 Tendai Mtawarira (prop)

‘The Beast’ is described as having played an “important role on and off the field”.

7 Pieter-Steph du Toit (lock/flank)

The magazine lauds the versatile Du Toit for “working his way back into the starting side thanks to a string of impressive performances”.
