Wellington - All Blacks flyhalf Beauden Barrett will play Super Rugby for the Wellington-based Hurricanes again next season after rejecting what he called a "compelling" offer from the Auckland-based Blues.

The 22-year-old Barrett, who has played eight Tests, was hotly pursued by the Blues because flyhalves of his quality and experience are in short supply. The Blues, under coaches Sir John Kirwan and Sir Graham Henry, are also in negotiation with New Zealand rugby league star Benji Marshall.

Barrett said he was strongly tempted to join the Blues because of the quality of its coaching team "and it was a pretty good package they put together." But he said he had chosen to remain with the Hurricanes where he began his Super Rugby career as a 19-year-old.
