'Brumbies tougher than Bulls'

Cape Town - Chiefs coach Dave Rennie believes the Brumbies will be a tougher challenge than the Bulls would have been in the Super Rugby final this weekend.

The Chiefs, who beat the Crusaders 20-19 in their semi-final, will host Jake White's Brumbies after the latter stunned the Bulls 26-23 in Pretoria.

"I'm not surprised that they won; it's not easy though and it shows a bit about the spirit within that group," Rennie told the stuff.co.nz website.

"They probably had been a bit rusty over the previous couple of weeks due to that long break they had through the Lions series but they were much better (against the Bulls)."

The Brumbies play a very structured game, which could come in handy in a final. They kicked a lot out of the defensive end against the Bulls and were very good in how they applied pressure with an aerial attack and chase.

"They try to play all their footy down the right end. They've got a really strong set-piece and win a lot of penalties, especially from their scrum, so I don't think they'll change too much.

"They're very well coached, they've got a lot of strong rugby brains there with Jake and Laurie Fisher as well as a couple of ex-Wallabies in the background so I think they present a real challenge - probably more so than the Bulls," said Rennie.

The clash at Waikato Stadium kicks off at 09:35 (SA time) on Saturday.
