Brumbies make it 2-from-2 with Rebels win in Canberra

Cape Town - The Brumbies emerged victorious in their all-Australian Super Rugby clash against the Melbourne Rebels in Canberra on Friday.

The Brumbies won 39-26 after leading 24-7 at half-time.

The Brumbies made it two wins from as many matches thanks to six tries by centre Irae Simone, fullback Tom Banks, flank Tom Cusack, wings Solomone Kata and Tom Wright, and hooker Folau Fainga’a. Flyhalf Noah Lolesio added three conversions and a drop goal.

The Rebels, who succumbed to their second straight defeat having been humbled by the Sunwolves in Week 1, replied with four tries by flank Angus Cottrell (2), fullback Dane Haylett-Petty and scrumhalf Frank Lomani. Lomani was also on target with two conversions, while flyhalf Matt Toomua added a third.

The Brumbies picked up four points for their victory to move top of the Australian Conference and into second place in the Overall standings.

The Rebels left empty-handed and dropped to the bottom of the Australian Conference and 12th in the Overall log.

In next weekend's Round 3 action, the Brumbies welcome the Highlanders to Canberra (Saturday, February 15 at 10:15 SA time), while the Rebels host the Waratahs in Melbourne (Friday, February 14 at 10:15 SA time).
