Immense fight back not enough for Waratahs

Cape Town - A second half-fight back was not enough for the Waratahs as the visiting Blues took a hard-fought 40-33 win in their Super Rugby match played in Sydney.

As it happened: Waratahs v Blues

It was the Blues who proved the far superior team in the first half, running up a 26-0 lead thanks to tries by Rieko Ioane and Scott Scrafton.

Flyhalf Piers Francis kicked two conversions and four penalties.

In the second half, the Waratahs were much improved and scored tries through fullback Israel Folau (2), Silatolu Latu,  flyhalf Bernard Foley and replacement, Paddy Ryan. Foley added four conversions.

Their fight back, however, was not enough as the Blues added two further converted tries themselves through Ioane, who scored his second as well as his brother, No 8 Akira Ioane.

Next week the Waratahs have a bye while the Blues play the Cheetahs.
