If their depth in loose forwards - even shorn of World Rugby Player of the Year Pieter-Steph du Toit to begin with - was emulated on a more squad-wide basis, the Stormers would be hard to overlook as potential Super Rugby Unlocked title winners.

They shouldn't be written off in that regard anyway, despite making a more belated entry to the competition than anyone else, at home to the Lions on Saturday (Newlands, 19:00).

But it will also take Lady Luck being in a merciful mood to them over the next few weeks to put the Capetonians in a position to strike for the novel, first-time "Unlocked" silverware, leading onward into a Currie Cup.
