Stormers a very good side, ‘Canes coach insists

Cape Town - Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd feels it would be a mistake to take the Stormers lightly in Friday’s Super Rugby clash in Wellington.

The defending champions are heavy favourites against the Stormers, who have lost their last three games in convincing fashion.

After starting the season with six wins on the trot, the Stormers have lost to the Lions (Cape Town, 29-16), Crusaders (Christchurch, 57-24) and Highlanders (Dunedin, 57-14).

"It was only a few weeks ago that they beat the Chiefs in Cape Town and were on a six-match winning streak, so we know they are a very good side,” Boyd was quoted as saying on the Hurricanes’ official website.

"They've had a couple of results they'll be disappointed with in the past two weeks in New Zealand and I think they will be highly motivated to put a good performance on the park against us in Wellington."

Before beating the Chiefs, the Stormers had rolled over the Bulls, Jaguares, Kings, Sunwolves and Cheetahs to start their season.

The last time the Hurricanes played the Stormers was in 2015, when they edged the Capetonians 25-20 in Wellington.

Friday’s clash is scheduled for 09:35 (SA time).
