Cape Town - With four seasons all in one day, it was set to be a thriller of a match, as a packed Fort Hare crowd got behind their UFH Blues, seeking their first win in the FNB Varsity Shield presented by Steinhoff International campaign. Wits however, proved too strong, coming away with a 37-8 victory.

The match got off to a strong start as Wits drew first blood in the early minutes of the match and Wits hooker, CJ Conradie scored two tries to set the pace for the first half.

UFH replied with a try to reduce the deficit through Sias Alandre, but the men from Wits were not just visiting to see the sights of Alice, as outside centre Jarvis Joshua closed off the first half with a try of his own.

UFH showed signs of a comeback in the second half, but silly mistakes and lack of finishing resulted in UFH failing to put points on the board.

Wits men pulled the trigger one last time to score a try through Connor Brocksmidt to seal the result.

“The opportunities came our side, we broke the Wits defence, but we could not put it in the sack,” said UFH captain, Zanoxolo Qwele.  “And that is not good enough if you want win games. At a point we were 13 on the field and that on any day will cost you games.”

The men from UFH are yet to find a win in the 2016 Varsity Shield, and Wits secure a win away from home, making it two wins from three.
