London - English club Leicester Tigers have announced the signing of former Springbok centre and skipper Jean de Villiers on a six-month deal.
According to the Leicester Mercury website, following a protracted chase and plenty of media speculation in both hemispheres, the 34-year-old finally put pen to paper.
De Villiers has 109 Test caps and is among the most experienced players in the game.
He was part of the Boks' Rugby World Cup-winning squad in 2007 and captain of the 2015
Upon his retirement, De Villiers stated he would never play for a South African team again.
De Villiers is South Africa's most-capped centre and in 2014 became the fourth player to reach a century of caps for the country.
He has twice been named South Africa player of the year (2008 and 2013).
If he can maintain his fitness, he could form a mouth-watering, first-choice centre partnership with Manu Tuilagi, who is due back from a long-term groin injury around the same time that De Villiers arrives.
