Cape Town - Despite their pre-season win over the Lions, Bulls coach Nollis Marais feels there is much room for improvement before Super Rugby starts.

Wing Jamba Ulengo’s last-gasp try gave the Bulls a 28-24 win over the Lions in a friendly game in Polokwane at the weekend.

The Lions were leading 19-7 at one stage, but a strong second half showing from the Bulls helped them to an unlikely victory.

However, Marais feels they are only 70% from where they need to be for Super Rugby.

“I’m elated that the players fought until the end to win. They played with a lot of freedom and there was some good attacking play. But we’ll have to fix some shortcomings,” Marais told Netwerk24.

“The scrums and in a lesser manner the lineouts are the biggest stumbling blocks. We have a dangerous backline, but need better accuracy up front. I’m also uneasy about our depth up front.”

The Bulls start their Super Rugby campaign with an away clash against the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday, February 27.
