Cape Town - After two pre-season games, the Cheetahs have shifted their focus to their opening Super Rugby clash against the Jaguares in Bloemfontein next Friday (February 26).

The Cheetahs beat the Bulls 28-10 in a warm-up match in Zimbabwe earlier this month, before downing the Kings 22-11 in Port Elizabeth last Friday.

They took a short break after the Kings game, but will resume training on Wednesday.

According to coach Franco Smith, all attention is now shifted towards their opening game against the Argentines.

“In the 10 days that lie ahead, there will be specific focus placed on the match against the Jaguares,” Smith told Netwerk24.

“The hard work has already been done - but it’s time now to look at more of the finer detail of our preparation, and in particular to what it’s going to take to beat the Jaguares.”

Smith feels the Jaguares are much better than the scoreline indicated in their 29-14 defeat to the Stormers at the weekend.

“We’re definitely not underestimating them,” said Smith.

The Cheetahs will analyse video material of the Jaguares’ match against the Stormers, as well as from their match against the Lions this week.
