Cape Town - Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has confirmed that Stephen Moore will continue to captain the side even though he may not be guaranteed a starting spot.

Moore was criticized earlier in the season for below-par performances in Super Rugby while playing for the Queensland Reds but he has experienced something of a resurgence having scored five tries in his last four games.

The Wallabies face Fiji, Scotland and Italy in the June internationals and Cheika believes that Moore faces strong competition from Western Force's Tatafu Polota-Nau and the Waratahs' Tolu Latu for a starting berth at hooker.

However, Cheika insists that Moore will definitely lead the side despite speculation that Waratahs flank Michael Hooper would take over skippering duties.

"Moorey is going to be the captain for sure and he knows, too, there's some stiff competition," Cheika told the Daily Mail

"His thing is leadership, being aggressive ... that's what I want from him.

"I think he's doing that for the Reds, he's being very abrasive in there and getting stuck in.

"Moorey knows that, too. Captaincy's a leadership issue whether you're in the team or not.

"Hoops really improved out of sight this year with the 'Tahs. It's not been easy for him and he's excelled in the way he's handled himself."
