Cape Town - Waratahs flyhalf Bernard Foley might miss his side's Super Rugby opener after sustaining a shoulder injury during their pre-season defeat to the Highlanders.

The Waratahs start their season against the Reds in Sydney on Saturday, February 27, and Waratahs head coach Daryl Gibson confirmed that the international flyhalf hurt his left Acromioclavicular (AC) joint on Friday, with a Waratahs spokesperson adding that the 26-year-old could be sidelined for three to four weeks.

"He sustained a shoulder injury so we're unsure how limited he's going to be in the next few weeks," Gibson told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"But until he's assessed properly [we won't know].

"At the moment, he's in doubt in for next week."

Wallabies playmaker Kurtley Beale seems set to stand in at ten for Saturday's fixture at Allianz Stadium, a fitting choice as Beale impressed at pivot twice during the pre-season.

Gibson added: "At the moment I'm really comfortable with KB at 10, so provided he comes through the game unscathed, I cant see that changing for next week."
