Cape Town - Former Springbok wing JP Pietersen has called time on his career with French Top 14 side Toulon.
Pietersen, who joined Toulon from the English club Leicester Tigers in 2017, confirmed on social media that he was bringing his three-year stint in France to an end.
Pietersen, 33 in July, will see out his contract with the former champions which runs out next month.
Pietersen made 21 appearances for Toulon this season, starting 14 of their 26 games as the club endured a disappointing season which saw them finish in ninth place.
He played 70 Tests for the Springboks, the last of which came on the 2016 end of year tour against England at Twickenham.
Although he played 137 Super Rugby matches for the Sharks, it's unclear whether he intends returning to the KwaZulu-Natal side - or any of the other South African franchises.
