Cape Town - Former Springbok and Ulster favourite Ruan Pienaar could have played his last match for the province after suffering a back injury against the Ospreys on Saturday.

The 33-year-old scrumhalf, who is leaving the PRO12 outfit at the end of the season, came off after 20 minutes due to a back spasm.

And with Ulster struggling to make the playoffs, this weekend’s game against Leinster looks like being their last of the 2016/17 season.

Ulster host Leinster on Saturday while Ospreys head to the Scarlets, with the Welsh region currently five points better off in the standings and they also boast a stronger points differential of 73, meaning it’s going to be a difficult ask for Ulster to progress to the knockout stages.

Pienaar has played 88 Tests for the Springboks.
