Cape Town - Springbok and Bulls flyhalf Handre Pollard is unlikely to be paid while he recovers from a knee injury.

According to Netwerk24, Pollard will in all likelihood not be paid by the South African Rugby Union (SARU) for the next six months.

In the South African off-season, Pollard - along with several other top Springboks - went to play club rugby in Japan.

There he injured his shoulder but had contract insurance to cover for the injury.

But he then suffered a season-ending knee injury when he returned to the Bulls which is likely to cost him dearly.

According to Netwerk24, Pollard needed to play for the Bulls, after returning from Japan, in order to be covered again by injury insurance.

Therefore, Pollard is unlikely to be paid a salary for the next six months.

If Pollard is sidelined for longer than six months, then his membership of the MyPlayers organisation will become a lifeline.

He will then be paid for 18 months, in line with an agreement between SA Rugby and MyPlayers.
