Cape Town - The process of finding Heyneke Meyer’s successor as Springbok coach could drag on for long.

It was reported earlier this year that the new Bok mentor will only be appointed at the end of March.

However, according to Netwerk24, there are now even talks that SARU could opt for an interim coach which may see its head of rugby, Rassie Erasmus, step in and fulfil the role on a short-term basis.

Erasmus is head of SARU’s Mobi-Unit of coaches who help out at various provinces upon request.

The Mobi-Unit includes coaches like Pieter de Villiers (scrums), Jacques Nienaber (defence), Louis Koen (kicking) and Johann van Graan, who was forwards coach under Meyer.

SARU is therefore not under pressure to appoint a permanent head coach before the Test series against Ireland in June.

Former Stormers coach Allister Coetzee was believed to be the front-runner for the job, but that no longer appears a foregone conclusion.
