Cape Town - Former England coach Stuart Lancaster is reportedly helping out at the Stormers as they prepare for this year's Super Rugby competition.

According to Netwerk24, Lancaster was at WP Rugby's High Performance Centre in Bellville on Monday to share his expertise with the current Stormers coaching staff.

It is unclear for how long Lancaster will be in Cape Town.

Lancaster quit as England coach last year after they failed to make the knockout phases of the Rugby World Cup.

The Stormers appointed Robbie Fleck as interim coach late last year after Eddie Jones left to replace Lancaster as England coach.

Fleck was Stormers backline coach for the last few seasons, but he is still inexperienced as a head coach. His first head coaching role was with the WP Under-21 side last year and his assistants - Paul Treu (attack) and Russell Winter forwards) - are also inexperienced at Super Rugby level.

Fleck's appointment came after the WP Rugby Union opted against appointing John Mitchell as Stormers head coach.

The union's Director of Rugby, Gert Smal, was eager to appoint Mitchell but the Kiwi had a track record of several run-ins with players at previous teams he coached. This led to WP opting against his appointment, with Fleck getting the job instead.
