The first ever 9 point try in world rugby!

Cape Town - The Varsity Cup has promised "rugby that rocks" and has delivered in the opening game of the season between UP-Tuks and NWU-Pukke.

A number of innovative changes were announced for this year's competition, most notably in scoring, with the possibility of a 9 point try on offer.

This would be awarded to a team if a try scoring move started in their own half and they keep possession throughout play in the lead up to the try.

It didn't take long for the first 9 point try in world rugby to come the way of Barend Janse van Rensburg of the NWU-Pukke who rounded of a thrilling move to score in the 8th minute of the first match of this year's tournament.

Visitors NWU-Pukke went on to beat UP-Tuks 38-15.
