Cape Town - Former Springbok centre Brendan Venter has called on England coach Eddie Jones to hand Owen Farrell the No 10 jersey on a permanent basis so he can develop into "the best flyhalf in the world".

Venter, who is still a technical advisor to Saracens, feels Jones should put his faith in Farrell and bring an end to the "dabbling" of George Ford as England's No 10.

Farrell is the current Saracens flyhalf.

"If you look at the way Owen Farrell is developing, you potentially have somebody who can become the best flyhalf in the world," Venter told the London Evening Standard.

"I just hope that England, sooner rather than later, make the decision to stick with Owen and stop dabbling with George Ford. George is a good footballer but they are not going to win things longer term with him, they will with Owen."

Jones is now putting into place his backroom staff and is widely expected to focus on bringing in Saracens' defence coach Paul Gustard and Bristol forwards coach Steve Borthwick.

Venter knows both well from his time at Saracens and says their addition will bolster England's push for silverware.

"England have a very strong team and the introduction of Steve and Paul to the set-up will make it even stronger," said Venter added.
