Exeter - High-flying Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their squad for next season with the signing of Australia international prop Greg Holmes from Reds.

The 32-year-old, who was part of the Wallabies squad that reached the World Cup final in October, will join the English Premiership outfit for the start of next season, once the 2016 Super 18 season finishes.

"We watched a lot of his games for Queensland and the games he featured in for Australia in the Rugby World Cup," said Exeter head coach Rob Baxter.

"I think anyone who looked at Australia's scrum will see they were one of the most destructive units in the tournament, and Greg played a large part in that."

Exeter are currently second in the English Premiership after winning six of their seven matches so far.

But they dropped to third in their European Champions Cup pool, two points behind leaders Ospreys, after a crushing 42-10 defeat to Clermont on Sunday.

"I've been in Queensland all my career, so it is going to be a different challenge for me," said Holmes, who has been capped 24 times by his country.

"Right now, I feel a little bit nervous, but at the same time excited about what lies ahead."

Holmes made his Reds debut in 2005 and was called up by Australia later that year for their November tour to Europe, making his debut against France in Marseille.

He won the Super Rugby title with the Reds in 2011.
