Cape Town - The Rugby World Cup final of 1995 was something that will live on in the memories of all South Africans.

The site of Nelson Mandela gracing the field before the match and then to hand over the trophy to victorious captain Francois Pienaar certainly remains one of the greatest sights ever seen on a South African sporting field.

But it could have all been so different.

Giant All Black wing, Jonah Lomu had literally run over everything put in his path in the lead up to the final.

The All Blacks were certainly not scared to use their kingpin at every opportunity and the final was no different.

Lomu seemed certain to score at one point, scything through the Springbok defence after taking an inside pass from flyhalf Andrew Mehrtens.

After making 20 metres the big winger met his match in Joost van der Westhuizen, who brought down the mighty All Black with an incredibly brave tackle.

And the rest as they say, is history.
