A little over a decade ago, the Caput men's residence at the North West University (NWU) were confronted with what proved to be a make-or-break decision over their rugby future.

Known as one of the smaller residences on campus, they had an unexpectedly profitable intake of rugby players that year.

Because of their limited numbers, they were playing in the second division of the internal league or Koshuisliga.
