CAF praise Gomes for reporting cash bribe

Cape Town - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has heaped praise on referee Victor Gomes for rejecting and reporting a $30 000 (R362 822) bribe to fix a Confederation Cup first-leg playoff match between Plateau United and U.S.M of Algeria.

CAF sent a letter of appreciation to the South African Football Association (SAFA), thanking the 35-year-old for inspiring referees around the globe with good ethics and high professionalism. 

Meanwhile, the matter is still under investigation.

We would like to take this opportunity to appreciate your excellent attitude and honesty shown during the incident that took place on the occasion of the match Plateau United Fc (Nigeria) and U.S.M (Algeria).

You have all those affluence which accolades in a good and honest referee.

We praise your positive attitude and your ethical abilities to ensure a fair play during your games.

With determination and urge to always go an extra mile while refereeing, you have successfully brought a lot of fame to CAF.

With your significant contribution, we are changing the mind sets to ensure the fair play.
