Cape Town - Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela says Bafana Bafana have plenty to work on if they are to improve on their AFCON quarter-final exit to Nigeria.

Bafana blew hot and cold in the tournament as they struggled in the group stages after two defeats and one win, before coming good against hosts Egypt with a 1-0 win in the Round-of-16.

Orlando Pirates' Thembinkosi Lorch got the winner in that encounter before the national team were eliminated by the Super Eagles in the last eight.

Komphela told reporters: "I didn't go to the audit in terms of the squad but I can only make a comment regarding how they played. I thought one, we didn't give up until we got into the quarter-finals, and the big win against Egypt I think it gave us a big boost.

"We didn't capitalise against Nigeria, I think if we had more confidence and belief maybe something could've come up but again we were up against a good side. It's a pity we have to come back.

"But if we can be realistic, even in the group stages we could see it would be tough to come through, but the confidence came back after beating Egypt and then after that you say the results reflected to our group stages. We need to reflect and do things the right way, let's have principles not just work, anywhere where there's a framework and principles, success happens.

"We need more going forward, it's about preparation, planning, performing and development. It's a multi-layer, we need a thesis for that."
