Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Zane Moosa has questioned the South Africa Football Association’s (SAFA) motive in suspending head coach, Shakes Mashaba, after winning Senegal in a 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifier.

South Africa were put to the test at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last week in a clash against the Lions of Teranga and held on for a historic 2-1 victory.

However, minutes after the final whistle is was reported on Sunday that Mashaba has been suspended for publicly insulting SAFA president Danny Jordaan.

According to Soccer Laduma, Moosa admits to being shocked by the decision especially after such a huge victory.

"It was surprising to hear that he (Mashaba) was suspended, to be honest, because the fact that we just beat Senegal - one of the top ranked teams in Africa. Whether some decisions went our way or not, the fact that Bafana won means that it was a big victory. So, now there’s a long gap between this and our next (World Cup qualifying) game in August," said Moosa.

"In our football, there’s so much happening that you won’t know the main reason behind this. Is it the outburst? Did Shakes give them an excuse? We don’t know and we’re just going to have to wait and see because he has to face a disciplinary hearing now.

"We don’t know what to say, because it’s a surprise, a shock. We don’t know what happened, whether he had some words or what.

"So, you’d think that, if they want to get rid of people or whatever, you wouldn’t expect it after a win like that and you would’ve thought that, if they wanted to get rid of him, why not after the AFCON (qualifying)? Why now? Maybe Shakes have given them an excuse."
