- Bafana Bafana star forward Percy Tau scored his 13th senior goal for the national side against Ghana on Thursday.
- In only his 29th appearance, Tau is tied seventh on the all-time Bafana Bafana goal scorers with Sibusisu Zuma.
- The Brighton player is expected to eventually break the record held by Benni McCarthy.
Percy Tau has climbed the all-time Bafana Bafana goal scoring charts following his equalising strike against Ghana on Thursday evening.
The 26-year-old help guide South Africa to an important 1-1 stalemate against the Black Stars in their penultimate 2021 Africa Cup of Nation qualifying encounter.
The draw ensured Ghana advanced to the next year's tournament, while Bafana Bafana need just to avoid defeat against Sudan on Sunday to secure their finals ticket.
Meanwhile, it was Tau's 13th goal in 29 senior men's national appearances, equalling former Bafana Bafana great Sibusiso Zuma's tally.
1. Benni McCarthy - 31 goals
2. Shaun Bartlett - 28
3. Katlego Mphela - 23
4. Bernard Parker - 23
5. Phil Masinga - 19
6. Siyabonga Nomvethe - 16
7. Sibusiso Zuma - 13
8. Percy Tau - 13
9. Tokelo Rantie - 12
10. Siphiwe Tshabalala - 12
Zuma represented South Africa on 63 occasions and has a scoring ratio of 0.19 while Tau's ratio is already at staggering 0.43, higher than Siyabonga Nomvethe and Phil Masinga.
Tau is now three goals shy of Nomvethe (16) on the all-time Bafana Bafana goal scorers list with Masinga further ahead on 19 strikes.
It is predicted that Tau is one of the prospects to possibly break Benni McCarthy's record of 31 goals for the senior side.
Tau, who plays for Brighton and Hove Albion in the English Premier League, is expected to have lengthy international career.
The left-footed star has a chance to increase his tally on Sunday against Sudan.
Kick-off is at 18:00 (SA time)
