London - West Ham United's Michail Antonio has emphasised the importance of consistency as the team aim to recover from their poor start to the season.

The Hammers exceeded expectations last campaign, finishing in seventh position, only four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

However, Slaven Bilic's charges have flattered to deceive this term and sit in 16th position in the Premier League, only a point above the relegation zone.

Antonio believes West Ham can turn things around, but need to find consistency in their performances.

"I don't feel that we should be down there, but because of the performances that we have had and the mistakes we've been making, that's why we are down there," the winger told Sky Sports News HQ.

"But as a team and the players that we have, it's just not right. Luckily, this season, everybody is beating everybody and the bad run of form that we've had so far, we're still in and around it.

"If we win a couple of games, we could easily be ninth or 10th, it's just one of those things where we've got to concentrate on our own game and make sure we've put all of our mistakes behind us now.

"It's just about getting that consistency in the Premier League. As a player you have to be consistent and as a team you have got to be consistent to be up and around the big boys.

"Hopefully we've now put everything behind us, we find our shape, we find our bond and now we can push on and get up the league."

West Ham next travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday again in a League Cup fixture where they will face a United side out for revenge after a 1-1 draw at the same venue over the weekend.
