Premier League to return with Manchester City v Arsenal blockbuster

The Premier League is set to restart its 2019/2020 campaign on 17 June with Manchester City v Arsenal and Aston Villa v Sheffield Wednesday, subject to government approval.

A full round of fixtures involving all 20 teams will then follow on the weekend of 19-21 June.

There are 92 matches remaining to be played in the current campaign with the first four games involving the above mentioned teams who have a game in hand.

The Premier League was suspended on 13 March due to the pandemic and it will be 100 days since Leicester City's 4-0 win over Aston Villa on 9 March that the season is set to resume.

the last fixture All matches will be played behind closed doors and broadcast live with teams following stringent safety protocols to ensure player safety.

Safety guidelines are yet to be issued by the UK government with decisions subject to change in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kick-off times will be as follows: (all SA time)

Friday: 22:00
Saturday: 14:30, 17:00, 19:30 and 22:00
Sunday: 14:00, 16:00, 18:30 and 21:00
Monday: 22:00
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 20:00 and 22:00

The BBC reports that all teams have agreed to a 25 July end date which is in line with the FIFA mandated cut off date of 31 July for all leagues to complete their season.

Liverpool currently hold a massive 25 point advantage at the top of the table with Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich City in the relegation places.
