Cape Town - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised rising star Gabriel Jesus and revealed that the youngster is eager to become a top player.

The 20-year-old's first season at the Etihad Stadium has been hampered by an injury that kept him out for three months, but he has already impressed with five goals in seven starts.

Guardiola has lauded the Brazilian's attitude and work ethic, and is looking forward to helping make the most of his talent.

"His impact has been big," the Spanish coach told the club's official website. "His gap to improve is huge and we want to help him do that.

"He is so open minded - his first mentality is to help the team. When he loses the ball, he runs to fight for it back. I love that.

"He wants to become a great player, a better player, and he is willing to take advice and work hard."

Meanwhile City have announced that they are set to take on cross-town rivals Manchester United in Houston, Texas on their US pre-season tour on July 20.
