Gunners sign 9-year old South African starlet

Cape Town - Nigerian-born South African starlet Jayden Adetiba has joined Arsenal after impressing on trial for the Gunners.

Adetiba, who previously played for the SuperSport United Soccer School, reportedly spent five weeks with Arsenal before joining the North London club.

"I thank God and my parents for this. I am very happy," the youngster from Cape Town was quoted as saying by The Sun.

"I train three times a week at the academy and we have a match at the weekend.

"The amazing thing is, I have always been an Arsenal fan and I will work hard every day to make the first team."

Adetiba revealed that he idolises Cristiano Ronaldo for his work ethic and Alex Iwobi for making it into Arsenal's first team out of the Gunners' academy.

South Africans such as Benni McCarthy, Lucas Radebe and Steven Pienaar have set the Premier League alight in the past.

In the most recent transfer window, Percy Tau earned the chance to follow in their footsteps when he joined Brighton and Hove Albion.

Adetiba will look to follow in the footsteps of those greats, as well as African stars such as Samuel Eto'o, Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and John Obi Mikel.
