Man United to release Ibrahimovic - reports

Cape Town - Zlatan Ibrahimovic is unlikely to be offered a new contract at Manchester United, according to reports.

Premier League clubs will announce their retained lists on Friday, where they signal which out-of-contract players they intend to keep.

Ibrahimovic’s 12-month deal at Old Trafford expires this summer and United have had an option to trigger a one-year contract extension for the striker.

But with the 35-year-old expected to miss the rest of 2017 through injury, widespread reports in the UK have indicated that United are ready to release him.

Ibrahimovic underwent successful surgery on cruciate ligament damage last month, yet he is one of United’s top earners and would miss at least half of next season if he was to remain at the club.

United are expected to use the wages saved by Ibrahimovic’s departure to invest in a new striker.

Jose Mourinho’s men have been strongly linked with a move for Real Madrid frontman Alvaro Morata.
