Cape Town - Out-of-favour Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is looking to move on during the January transfer window after limited opportunities at St James' Park.

The Serbia international has struggled to make an impact on Tyneside in the two-and-a-half years since his switch from Anderlecht in 2015.

Mitrovic scored nine Premier League goals in his debut season as the Magpies suffered relegation to the Championship, which they won at the first attempt last term to make a swift return to the top flight.

However, the 23-year-old contributed just four goals in 25 appearances during their promotion-winning campaign and has yet to be handed a league start in 2017/18.

After managing a mere six outings off the bench, Mitrovic concedes his time with the Toon is nearing an end.

"I persistently waited for the chance of the past months," he told Serbian website Zurnal. "I'm sorry after all, I loved Newcastle, but it's time for me to look more at myself, to find the best solution for my career.

"I tried to be honest with myself and my team-mates at every training and match. The fact that I did not get a chance is simply not up to me. Everyone knows that I was left in the background.

"I never felt better, I'm physically in flawless form, I cannot wait to play. The most important thing is to find a club and finally get a chance in the field."
