Cape Town - Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Morgan Schneiderlin will be allowed to leave Manchester United in January "if the offer is right".

Speaking at a press conference ahead of facing Sunderland on Boxing Day, the United boss paved the way for the player's exit, with West Brom a likely destination.

The Baggies reportedly tabled a bid of £18m for the 27-year-old French international who has played just three times under Mourinho.

When asked about Schneiderlin's future, the United boss said: "Great professional, fantastic boy, he opened his heart a couple of times.

"My answer is simple: if he's playing regular with me I have the right to say 'no way'. If he's not playing regular I have no right to say to a player 'you are going nowhere'.

"My answer was if the offer is right, and our board thinks that the offer is a good offer in relation to the quality of a very good player like Morgan, I would not stop him going."

Everton are also reportedly interested in the player who joined United for £24m from Southampton in 2014.

He came up through the youth ranks at Strasbourg and went onto make over 200 appearance for the Saints, having signed in 2008.
