Cape Town - Brazil legend Pele thinks Brendan Rodgers' "great coaching" helped mould Luis Suarez into the player he is today.

Suarez, who left the Reds for Barcelona in 2014 for £64.98 million, was already at the club when Rodgers took over at Anfield in 2012.

The Uruguayan scored an incredible 54 goals in just 66 games under Rodgers - almost helping the club to Premier League glory in the 2013/14 season - in comparison to just 15 in 44 before the Northern Irishman arrived on Merseyside.

Rodgers is now manager at Scottish champions Celtic and Pele reckons his new club should be extremely pleased to have him on-board.

“I think Celtic are very lucky to have a manager with the qualities of Brendan,” Pele told the Scottish Sun website.

“Luis Suarez was a really good player when he went to Liverpool but I believe Brendan gave him great coaching, guidance and advice and made him a better player and a better person.

“Suarez was prepared well for his move from Liverpool to Barcelona after working under Brendan. Celtic have a good reputation around the world – and have a good manager.”
